Almost everywhere underneath the metal is both primed and painted. I used Kerosene and a wooden spatula type scraper to protect the painted surfaces. It's a little messy, but if you take your time and work in sections it is very manageable. The upside in removing the coating is ease in keeping the bottom clean; the downside is a little extra noise caused by small rocks and stones. Not much, but some. Using the aluminum insulation quieted everything back down, plus keeps the cabin floors and trans tunnel cooler in the hot Florida summer heat. gordo
